That day everyone struck down cattle. Saul built an altar to the LORD. This was the first altar he built to the LORD. Saul struck animals in the valley and ate. Saul destroyed the altar he built.

Went out at night to pursue the Philistines. Said, “Let us attack the Philistines until dawn.” Said, “Let none of the Philistines escape.” Slept after the battle with the Philistines. Jonathan secretly left the battlefield and went outside

“Do whatever seems good to you.” “The Philistines will all be destroyed.” “The Philistines are fleeing in fear.” “Let’s bind the Philistines in the valley.” “The Philistines will not escape alive.”

God will not answer if you ask. God is not present in the battle. God is angry with Saul. God is angry with Jonathan. “Let us approach God here.”

Asked for help and provision for the battle. Asked God for food. Asked, “Shall I go down after the Philistines?” “Will You deliver them into Israel’s hands?” Asked if he could capture the Philistines’ chariots.

God gave no answer. Saul gathered the army and leaders. He said, “Find out how this sin has happened.” He said, “Even if my son Jonathan is guilty, he must die.” Saul offered food to God.

“You stand on one side.” “Jonathan and I will stand on the other side.” “Let us see who is guilty.” “Do whatever seems right to you.” “Let us offer sacrifices to God.”

“LORD God of Israel.” “LORD, reveal the whole truth.” “LORD, You are deceiving me.” “LORD, You didn’t give me two chariots.” “LORD, give me money to buy an airplane.”

The lot fell on Saul. The soldiers were cleared. The lot fell on both Jonathan and Saul. The lot fell on God. Jonathan made a decision in place of Saul.

“There was honey in my hand.” “I tasted a little honey with the tip of my staff.” “Here I am; I am ready to die,” Jonathan said. “May God deal with me…” “May God deal with me severely…”

“Saul must not die.” “Jonathan brought a great deliverance to Israel.” “Not a hair of his head will fall to the ground.” “God worked through him today.” “The people rescued Jonathan from death.”

Saul ruled over Israel. He fought against Moab, Ammon, Edom, etc. He fought against kings, the Philistines, and enemies. Wherever he turned, he defeated them. He delivered Israel from all who plundered them.

His wife’s name was Ahinoam. His sons were Jonathan, Ishvi, Malchi-shua. His elder daughter was Merab. His younger daughter was Michal. Saul had a big family.

There was fierce war with the Philistines all Saul’s life. Saul recruited every mighty man he saw. Saul took every strong man or brave person he saw into service. He made his son Malchi-shua commander of the Philistines. He made his daughter Michal queen of Edom.

The LORD said His people are Israel. “The LORD sent me to anoint you king over His people Israel.” “Now listen to the words of the LORD.” Saul was not accepted by the LORD. Saul did not do the anointing ceremony.
